We just got a solid batch of VR announcements from the latest VR Games Showcase, and honestly, it feels like things are starting to pick up again for VR in a big way. A mix of familiar franchises and new ideas showed up, but a few titles definitely stood out. — Payday VR Is Finally Happening A new Payday VR was one of the biggest moments from the showcase. If you’ve played Payday before, you already know the vibe — chaotic heists, loud firefights, and a lot of teamwork (or complete lack of it). Bringing that into VR just makes sense. From what was shown, it looks like it’s leaning into: - Close-up, intense shootouts - Proper co-op gameplay - More immersion when things inevitably go wrong mid-heist If they can nail the controls and keep it smooth, this could easily become one of the go-to multiplayer VR games. — VMX Looks Janky… But Kinda Fun Then there’s VMX, a BMX-style VR game that definitely caught attention — for better and worse. Let’s be real, it looks a bit janky right now. Some of the movement and animations don’t look fully polished yet, and you can tell it’s still finding its footing. But at the same time… it actually looks fun. There’s something about: - The speed - The trick system - That slightly chaotic VR movement It gives off that “this shouldn’t work, but it might actually be a blast” kind of energy. If the devs tighten things up, this could turn into a really addictive VR game. — Forefront Is Looking Seriously Impressive Forefront was probably the most visually impressive out of the bunch. It’s going for a bigger, more serious feel with large-scale combat and a more tactical approach. From what we saw: - Bigger maps than most VR shooters - Team-based gameplay - Strong focus on realism and immersion It actually looks like it’s trying to push VR shooters forward instead of just playing it safe, which is good to see. — VR Is Starting to Feel Like It’s Moving Again Overall, this showcase felt like a step in the right direction. We’re seeing: - Bigger ideas - More variety (stuff like BMX in VR is pretty different) - And games that aren’t afraid to try something new Not everything is polished yet (looking at you, VMX), but the direction is promising. — Final Thoughts Payday VR could be a huge multiplayer hit, Forefront looks like it’s aiming high, and VMX — even with the rough edges — might end up being one of those unexpectedly fun VR games. If this is the kind of stuff coming next, VR might be in for a really good run. — Void Respawn
